How to take screenshots in Samsung Galaxy Y

This post is in particular reply to some people who are asking me if I know how to take screenshots in Samsung Galaxy Y. Honestly I did not know the answer at first so I did some fiddling with the combinations of the available buttons in the Galaxy Y and luckily I was able to discover the right combination. At first I tried the combination used for taking screenshots in Samsung Galaxy Ace which is the back and menu button combination but it did not work with the Galaxy Y. I also tried the back and power button combination used in the Galaxy Tab but it has no effect also.

Finally, the trick is to press the "Home key" and the power button quickly at the same time. If your combination is successful, you will hear the familiar click of the camera shutter and a notification "Screen captured. Saved as image file" will briefly display on the screen. Open up your gallery and a new folder named "Screen Capture" has been created automatically for you.

For the unfamiliar with the Samsung Galaxy Y keys, the "Home key" is located at the center below the screen. On its left is the "Menu Key" and to its right is the "Back Key". The Power Button is at the upper right side of the phone,

See actual screenshots below as proof.

  1. Thanks for this post. I just got the Samsung Galaxy Y recently, unlocked version, from the Samsung shop. It came with 2 art back wrap stickers. It's priced the same as Smart's. This is my 2nd Android phone after the Alcatel OneTouch 906.

  2. You're welcome Jay. The Galaxy Y is the best bang for the back Android Phone from Samsung. I bet it will become very popular soon. I'm also very interested in getting the Alcatel OneTouch. How is it so far?

  3. I agree.

If you got the Galaxy Y now, then there's no point getting the Alcatel OneTouch 906 anymore. It's Android 2.2, resistive screen, 600 Mhz, 1050 Mh battery and I got it a few months ago at P6499.

By the way, I've had more than a dozen tries pressing the menu button and the power button quickly at the same time, no luck. Either the Menu comes first or the Power options appear. :)

    1. I'm a bit late but I found it much easier if you did these steps.
      1) Hold the menu button
      2) press the back button (still holding the menu button)
      3) then press the power button

  4. You got to press first the menu then the power button. It's really a little bit tricky. :)

So the Alcatel is not a good buy eh. Thanks to that.

  8. Press the menu button a few fraction of a second longer before pressing the power button (without letting go of the menu button). It really takes a great deal of timing so patience is needed here. At times you will capture even the appearance of the menu but you will get it soon. I'll post a video later for everybody to see how it is done.
